Monday, August 22

I have been busy in the classroom last week and today getting ready for Kindergarten Camp!!!  I think I have just about everything set to go for tomorrow morning.  I can't wait to meet our new class and get to know you all!  Don't forget to bring a lunch tomorrow - we will provide a snack, but we will NOT be providing lunch for Camp.  You may also bring your school supplies and rest towels tomorrow or Wednesday so that you don't need to worry about them on the first day of school.

I will see you all tomorrow morning at 9:00! Kindergarten Camp runs from 9-2 both tomorrow and Wednesday.  I can't wait to show you our classroom and have lots of fun!!!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Skeels

One Last Post!

Reminder for tomorrow's field trip to the farm:
Don't forget to send your child with a lunch and drink (preferably in disposable containers) and comfortable walking shoes.  I also told the class they could bring a hat and sunglasses if they wanted!  Please apply sunscreen in the morning as well.
Chaperones: Bring a lunch and drink for yourself and arrive to school at 8:30 or earlier!

Dear Families,
I would like to thank you all for a fantastic year!  I have enjoyed getting to know your families and children throughout the year, and it has been a blast!  Our class has worked hard and learned so much this year.  They get along great with each other and work well in groups.  I have been able to plan extra fun activities this year because of the way our class works together.  We also have a class of great problem solvers and critical thinkers.  Even though I am very sad to see everyone go, I know our class is ready for first grade!  I hope you all have a great summer and I'm sure I will see you in the fall!
Sincerely,
Emily Skeels :)

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT YEAR, CLASS OF 2023!!!

CHANGE to FARM FIELD TRIP

Good Afternoon Everyone,
I sent home a note yesterday about our farm field trip to Green Meadows this week.  We have decided to change the date of the trip to Thursday, June 9th since the weather for Wednesday looks VERY hot and they are predicting storms.  Therefore, on Thursday morning, we will be meeting our level teachers (first grade, multiage 1-2, and Yahara) first, and then leaving for our trip at 8:45.  We will return to school by 2:30.

Please send a lunch and drink with your child unless you have signed up for a school lunch.  Please put sunscreen on your child on Thursday morning, since we will be outdoors all day.  Also, have your child wear comfortable shoes for walking-we will be doing lots of it!!!

If you have volunteered to chaperone and have paid your $9, please arrive to school before 8:30.  We will need some help loading the lunches onto the buses and then getting our class organized to leave on time!  Chaperones:  Please remember to bring a lunch and drink for yourself as well!

Thank you for your flexibility!  I can't wait for Thursday; it is a fantastic trip!

Friday, June 3

We've had a very fun week this week!  Wednesday was T for Too Cool For School day, so we made ice cream patterns and wrote about our favorite ice cream flavors.  Thursday was our Kindergarten Graduation!!!!  I was so proud of everyone!  You did such a great job and the show was very fun to watch.  Today was Vacation day, so we had lots of hats and sunglasses in class.  We made a picture of ourselves going to the beach and went to some fun fish centers.  As one center, we used "fishing poles" to go fishing.  We added the numbers on the fish we caught.  This was definitely a favorite!!!

I have posted some pictures of our classmates on graduation day, so be sure to check them out!
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Monday, May 31

Today was S for Silly Socks and Scary Monsters Day!  We wrote a letter to our first grade teacher this morning.  Then, we worked in small groups to make either a monster head, shirt, body, hands, or feet.  We also made a Go Away Big Green Monster puzzle and did a fun addition dice roll to make a monster.  Everyone loved the activities that Mrs. Squire made!

REMINDER:
ALL library books are due back tomorrow!!!

Wednesday, May 25

This has been a fun week so far!

On Monday, we made a new book for our book bin drawers called "Down on the Farm."  This book has movable animals that are used to tell the story.  We also wrote in our farm journal about pigs.  We learned that the male pig is a boar, the female is a sow, and a baby is a piglet.  Pigs dig in the mud with their snouts to find food.  They also roll in mud to stay cool and protect their skin from the sun.  In the afternoon, our class went to music.  We have been practicing very hard for our Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony!  We hope that you can come!

On Tuesday, we went to the park on a field trip for Outside Day. Our class had lots of fun playing on the equipment and playing games with other classes.  They also got to eat a picnic lunch before walking back for specials.  It was a fun day with great weather!

Today we worked in our farm journals again.  We learned about chickens and wrote about them.  We also practiced addition and graphing.  We did a fun sheep activity where we had to estimate how many cotton balls would fill up the sheep's coat, then we checked our answer with real cotton.  We also got to spend some time working on puzzles for P day!

Later this week, we will be learning about the farmer's role in running a farm and talking about animal babies.  We will also read one of my favorite books, "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type" and will be writing our own letter to Farmer Brown!  The PTA is celebrating Kindergarten as the grade of the month this month.  On Friday, they will be bringing us popcorn to enjoy while we watch a farm video.

Letter Days for Next Week:
Monday-No School!
Tuesday-S for Silly Socks Day!  We will also be doing Spooky activities in kindergarten!
Wednesday-T for Tider Day - wear red, white, and black!
Thursday-U for USA day - wear red, white, and blue!
Friday-V for video day.  Kindergarten will also be doing a Vacation at the Beach theme for the day!
