Friday, September 2

We had a very busy first week of school - even with it being only two days!  On our first day of school, we learned how to "Show 5" which is a quiet signal we use throughout the school.  When we "Show 5" we have our eyes and ears on the speaker and our bodies are still.  We also learned how to turn our voice to a zero volume.  This is used when listening to directions or walking in the hallway.

Our first project this year was to make a picture of our name using different colors of ripped paper.  We also used this activity to practice using white glue.  Our projects are hanging in our classroom and they turned out great!

Today, we practiced taking a break.  In class and in specials, there are times when everyone may have to "Take a Break."  This means that we need to take a moment to get our self-control back.  Perhaps we didn't have our full attention on the speaker or we were doing something that was distracting others.  During our short (15 seconds or so) break, we think about what we need to fix in order to get our self-control back, and then we return to the activity!  Everyone did a great job practicing this today.

Our project today was to make a September calendar.  We didn't have time to pack them up at the end of the day, so they will be coming home on Tuesday!  You can keep this calendar in a special place in your home and cross off the days of the month as they pass.  Your child will be learning the days of the week and months of the year during calendar time and this is a fun way to practice these skills at home!

Things to remember for next week:
*No School on Monday
*Color Days start on Tuesday - send your child in that color if possible!
   Tuesday-red  Wednesday-orange  Thursday-yellow  Friday-green
*I sent home September's snack calendar today.  Please be sure to send in your child's snack on his/her assigned day!  I will send a snack bag home a few days before your snack day as an additional reminder!

Have a great weekend and I will see you on Tuesday!

First Day

Hello Families,
Our first day of Kindergarten is quickly approaching.  Just a few reminders for you:
*Please send your child's rest towel on the first day if you haven't already.  Any bath or swim towel is fine - it just needs to fit into a small cubby for storage.
*Send in any additional school supplies that you haven't already sent.
*You can send in lunch money at any time to be put into your child's hot lunch account.
*A note will be coming home on the first day of school requesting personal information for a classroom directory.  If you are interested, please complete and return this form by September 9th!  I will compile the information and send out a copy to everyone in the middle of September.
*Attach your child's bus information to his/her backpack or shirt for the first few days of school!
*My school information: Phone: 561-6145 e-mail: emily.skeels@edgerton.k12.wi.us

I can't wait to see you all again on the first day of school!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Skeels

One Last Post!

Reminder for tomorrow's field trip to the farm:
Don't forget to send your child with a lunch and drink (preferably in disposable containers) and comfortable walking shoes.  I also told the class they could bring a hat and sunglasses if they wanted!  Please apply sunscreen in the morning as well.
Chaperones: Bring a lunch and drink for yourself and arrive to school at 8:30 or earlier!

Dear Families,
I would like to thank you all for a fantastic year!  I have enjoyed getting to know your families and children throughout the year, and it has been a blast!  Our class has worked hard and learned so much this year.  They get along great with each other and work well in groups.  I have been able to plan extra fun activities this year because of the way our class works together.  We also have a class of great problem solvers and critical thinkers.  Even though I am very sad to see everyone go, I know our class is ready for first grade!  I hope you all have a great summer and I'm sure I will see you in the fall!
Sincerely,
Emily Skeels :)

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT YEAR, CLASS OF 2023!!!

CHANGE to FARM FIELD TRIP

Good Afternoon Everyone,
I sent home a note yesterday about our farm field trip to Green Meadows this week.  We have decided to change the date of the trip to Thursday, June 9th since the weather for Wednesday looks VERY hot and they are predicting storms.  Therefore, on Thursday morning, we will be meeting our level teachers (first grade, multiage 1-2, and Yahara) first, and then leaving for our trip at 8:45.  We will return to school by 2:30.

Please send a lunch and drink with your child unless you have signed up for a school lunch.  Please put sunscreen on your child on Thursday morning, since we will be outdoors all day.  Also, have your child wear comfortable shoes for walking-we will be doing lots of it!!!

If you have volunteered to chaperone and have paid your $9, please arrive to school before 8:30.  We will need some help loading the lunches onto the buses and then getting our class organized to leave on time!  Chaperones:  Please remember to bring a lunch and drink for yourself as well!

Thank you for your flexibility!  I can't wait for Thursday; it is a fantastic trip!

Friday, June 3

We've had a very fun week this week!  Wednesday was T for Too Cool For School day, so we made ice cream patterns and wrote about our favorite ice cream flavors.  Thursday was our Kindergarten Graduation!!!!  I was so proud of everyone!  You did such a great job and the show was very fun to watch.  Today was Vacation day, so we had lots of hats and sunglasses in class.  We made a picture of ourselves going to the beach and went to some fun fish centers.  As one center, we used "fishing poles" to go fishing.  We added the numbers on the fish we caught.  This was definitely a favorite!!!

I have posted some pictures of our classmates on graduation day, so be sure to check them out!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
